Niki Wang

Hi parents! I am Ms Niki or Teacher Niki and I have been a full-time Primary Six Maths tutor for 14 years (not really counting any more). In my past working life, I came from the banking industry but I found it extremely stressful and soul-sucking. It may seem like a valuable service but I found it extremely dry and unfulfilling.

Thankfully, I was given a new lease of life when an opportunity came to me. The mission: to help a struggling student who barely passed his mid-year exams. With just 2-3 months left, I had my work cut out for me. And lo and behold, his grades jumped up by 20 points in his prelims. And can I say the rest is history? 🙂

After so many years and a lot of reflection, I have come to love tutoring. There is a human connection and job satisfaction in what I do because I am inspiring young minds, motivating them to excel, and shaping the nation builders of tomorrow.

My Mathematics Superpower

My superpower is very straightforward just like my character. I can get students to achieve 100 marks in Mathematics – if they are willing to work hard and run alongside me as a trusted coach. 

My Proven Methods & Techniques

Needless to say, as a highly effective tutor, I have a stable and proven set of strategies that I expertly adjust to fit the temperament of each class. There is no question in the PSLE exam that will surprise me. I follow the MOE Syllabus with special emphasis on Model Drawing skills.   

Some of these strategies include:

• Socratic Questioning Technique to let the child experience the joy of discovering the solution by themselves.
• Reflective Learning – Student-led discussion, active learning, bottom-up approach
• Mental Flexibility – No drilling, passive learning, or top-down instruction (They have enough of it in schools)
• Parental Partnership – Having a tripartite relationship with students and parents so that we can achieve unity in purpose.
• Positive Rapport – Inspire student’s willingness and motivation to work alongside me to achieve.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Finance and Economics (RMIT)

Track Record

• 100% Passing Rate
• 100% of Students jumped 2 Grades
• A typical student can go from 70% to 100% within 3 months
• 5 out of 7 students achieved A* in 2019 (Before the new AL system)
